Eldritch Pulp Adventure #1
Posted by Andrew Luke

$2 US

A two tale piece, kicking off with a multiparter, 'Sponge', in which artist Eric York guides crimefighter The Black Aphid through Gothic Portmerrion scapes and scrapes. It's Batton Lash with Eisnerian layouts, mixed in with some of Andrew Lewis' simply symbols and a kick of Calum MacIver !YucK! Outside the highly polished and favoured scene setters, are some basic design central characters and Grade E dialogue with welcome glitches that bring me as to overheard laughter. However, there is plenty of gnarly jagged backgrounds amonngst, which please the eye and shiver the insides simeoultaneously.
The second tale is the stand alone 'Books and Covers', which has a much less stunning landscape although appears well crafted with some familiar characters and :) familiar resonating scenarios. Building well (captivates), the tempo rises with some very-detailed and polished picture forms, only to close with a bloody awful cliche that should never have seen print. Totally out of consistency with work of this calibre.
'Eldritch' has thus, too many tarnishes. Bah! Despite, Eric York has laid down some work of great merit and a memorable debut. If you don't check this out, do keep a look out for the name Eric York. Destined for greater things, and a valuable addition in the future of our community. Eric York. Eric York.
